Did you know that continued education has been proven to significantly impact outcomes for patients in hospitals across the country?

UPMC Hamot was first awarded the prestigious Magnet® Designation in 2016, and is proud to have recently achieved redesignation in 2021 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Nationally, Magnet hospitals are extremely rare: Only about 7-8% ever reach the pinnacle of our profession, and the redesignation is just as challenging. Ultimately, Magnet is the gold standard in nursing, reserved for the “best of the best.”

Magnet® hospitals consistently provide the highest levels of care, and the demanding standards of the award are most often accomplished by better educated workforces – like ours. Advanced training at UPMC Hamot is central to saving lives, strengthening our culture of excellence, and providing opportunities for employees at all levels to advance their careers. Every year, we are proud to award scholarships to employees seeking advanced degrees, training, and certifications.

Scholarships from Hamot Health Foundation support the housekeeper who wants to go back to school for respiratory therapy, the nurse who wants to pursue a master’s degree, the PCT who wants to attend the Jameson School of Nursing at UPMC Hamot, and the prenatal unit that wants to be trained in bereavement care. In turn, continued education equips your local hospital with the skills and expertise that allow us to give you and your loved ones the highest level of care possible. Advanced training is vital to what we do, and it’s only made possible by the generosity of our community.
