Nursing Scholarships

Applications are accepted between February 1 and March 31, 2024. Scholarship decisions are made in April. Funds are for coursework beginning in the summer or fall of the same year.

Hamot Health Foundation Scholarships and Private Donor Scholarships

These scholarships were established to provide financial support to individuals beginning or completing their basic education leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse or advancing their degree (BSN, MSN, DNP, CRNP, *scholarships are no longer able to be used for conference expenses). These scholarships are administered by Hamot Health Foundation.

Eligibility, Awards, and Selection Information

Eligibility — Applicants must be employed within UPMC Hamot and enrolled in a program leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse or an advanced nursing degree.

Awards — Funding will be paid directly to the academic institution. If the “balance due” on the tuition bill is less than the amount awarded, the award will be reduced to the “balance due.” Scholarship awards may be taxable.

Selection — Criteria for selection includes financial need, current progress in a nursing program, and professional contributions, goals, and achievements. Selection of the recipients will be done after review of the applications received. Additional information may be needed and interviews may be conducted to determine the recipients.

UPMC Hamot Aid Nursing Scholarship Fund

UPMC Hamot Aid Nursing Scholarship Fund was established by the UPMC Hamot Aid Society to provide financial support to Registered Nurses who are advancing their education by returning to a program of study resulting in a Baccalaureate, Master’s degree, or Doctoral degree in nursing. This scholarship fund is sponsored by the UPMC Hamot Aid Society, Medical Education Fund.

Eligibility, Awards, and Selection Information

Eligibility — Applicants must be Registered Nurses employed within UPMC Hamot who have returned to school to complete nursing studies at either a baccalaureate or master’s level.

Awards — Funding will be paid directly to the academic institution. If the “balance due” on the tuition bill is less than the amount awarded, the award will be reduced to the “balance due.” Scholarship awards may be taxable.

Selection — Criteria for selection includes professional and academic accomplishments, financial need, and professional contributions, goals, and achievements. Selection of the recipients will be done after review of the applications received. Additional information may be needed, and interviews may be conducted to determine the recipient.


Application Checklist:

  • Include completed typed application
  • Include two (2) professional reference letters
  • Include Statement of professional/educational goals — Attach a typed statement of your professional and educational goals. Explain in one page or less, your career goals and how this scholarship will help you meet those goals.
  • Include Transcripts — Please attach a transcript from your nursing program showing coursework to date (if currently enrolled) or from your last school attended (if not currently enrolled).

*PLEASE NOTE, ALL SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION AND NOT TO THE EMPLOYEE. YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR TUITION BILL TO HAMOT HEALTH FOUNDATION WITH AN OUTSTANDING BALANCE EQUAL OR GREATER TO THE AMOUNT OF YOUR SCHOLARSHIP PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 30.
