Donor Spotlight: National Fuel
In December 2015, 24-year-old Ali Fuhrman tragically lost her life in a car accident that also critically injured her father, Pat. Pat works at National Fuel, and last year he approached his employer to ask if the company would be willing to sponsor the cost of Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) training, a nationally recognized program, in honor of his daughter.

Orthopaedic Mission Trip
Care isn’t limited to the walls of the hospital, especially for a team of 14 UPMC Hamot staff members who traveled to Valladolid, Mexico, earlier this month. The team, which included physicians, residents, and other staff, spent the week providing free medical and surgical care to nearly 130 patients who otherwise could not afford or access the care they need.

At the Gala, we were pleased to announce the availability of up to ten $21,000 community grants as part of our promise to advance health in Erie County. We’re calling them our Community Promise Grants, and any organization with a great idea is welcome to apply before Feb. 28.

United Charities Wish Tree
Every holiday season, our United Charities committee organizes a Wish Tree for employees to request Christmas presents for their young children that they might otherwise not be able to afford. This year, we were blown away by the generosity of UPMC Hamot employees who gave presents to 239 children from 105 families.
