This is a historic day for Hamot Health Foundation and our community! Today, Hamot Health Foundation is accepting a $6 million grant from The Erie Community Foundation. This is the largest grant awarded by The Erie Community Foundation or received by Hamot Health Foundation in the history of either organization.

One by one, a bell slowly and methodically tolled — 84 solemn rings against the quiet August night. One toll for every life lost in 2018 to opioid abuse in Erie County plus one final toll to represent lives lost thus far in 2019.

The misuse of opioids is a national crisis, destroying lives at an alarming speed. Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Families are being torn apart by a vicious addiction that has no conscience nor regard for background, position, race, color, or creed.
