Erie Otters Team Up to Fight Cancer

“Fight” was the name of the game when the Erie Otters Hockey Club recently hosted Cancer Awareness Night at the Erie Insurance Arena.

Otters Cancer Awareness Night

At an appointed moment in the game, the crowd had the opportunity to hold up personal signs and identify who they stand up and fight for in the battle against cancer. An auction of special edition jerseys worn that night by the players in conjunction with t-shirt sales tallied a handsome sum of $4,861 in proceeds. The money was generously donated by the Erie Otters to Hamot Health Foundation’s Hillman Cancer Fund, where it will benefit local cancer patients and their loved ones.

The Hillman Cancer Fund assists cancer patients with an array of needs and opportunities related to cancer care in our community. Beyond the anticipated practical and financial challenges of cancer treatment, patients also need support in addressing survivorship and wellness programming for themselves and their families. This unique fund is designed to act in a versatile and comprehensive manner to help prevent these types of potential gaps in cancer care.

HHF salutes the Erie Otters Hockey Club for signaling their support to those in our community battling cancer. These individuals deserve our compassion and encouragement. Likewise, they deserve access to resources that will help them stay strong and maintain quality of life throughout the fight. Hillman Cancer Fund is a means to this end.

HHF is also pleased to recognize UPMC Health Plan and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center for their participation in Cancer Awareness Night with the Erie Otters.
