Hamot Health Foundation’s ninth Annual Gala was an evening unlike no other.
The evening was the celebration of a fresh vision for the Erie region that has captured the hopes and dreams of supporters throughout our community. This vision was brought into focus for over 500 gala attendees through various forms of expression, including inspiring remarks by UPMC Hamot President David Gibbons, a show-stopping musical performance from the Erie Playhouse, and a sleek visual décor evoking the fascinations of research. At the source of all this exhilaration was Magee-Womens Research Institute in Erie.
In September, the expansion of the Magee-Womens Research Institute to Erie was announced, along with a $6 million grant from the Erie Community Foundation to HHF. Additional collaboration with MWRI (Pittsburgh) and Penn State Behrend propelled the project forward. With implementation plans now underway, Erie is becoming a major hub for health care research.
The positive implications for our region are many — a boost to the local economy, the growth and development of area academic programs, and a desirable position for critical National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Above all, there are the anticipated research discoveries that will lead to improved health care for women and children worldwide. Discoveries that will first come into view through the work and mission of MWRI in Erie.
HHF wishes to acknowledge and thank the host committee for the ninth Annual Gala and our many generous sponsors.
