Women's Recovery Center

At 19, Emily’s life changed in an instant.

A serious car accident left her with extensive injuries and a long recovery ahead. What began as a prescription for pain management gradually grew into an opioid addiction—one she battled for more than 15 years.

Connecting with the Women’s Recovery Center

Everything began to shift in 2023, when Emily connected with the Women’s Recovery Center (WRC) in Venango County. “The WRC helped me not only as an addict, but as a mother as well,” Emily said. With the guidance of the WRC team, she has maintained her sobriety, experiencing only one brief setback in the fall of 2025.

“I am in a really good place today,” she shared. “And I can’t speak highly enough about the program. My professional support team there is phenomenal.”

Central to that support is Sam Hartle, a Certified Recovery Specialist and Nurse Coordinator at WRC — and someone who is in recovery herself. Emily meets with her regularly. “Sam is my superstar,” Emily said. “Being able to go to a facility and get help from another recovering addict is inspiring and hopeful.”

The admiration is mutual. “Emily has an unwavering perseverance toward her healing,” Sam said. “She’s an inspiration to all.”

Before her struggle with substance use, Emily earned an associate degree in medical administration and always dreamed of working in health care. Seeing Sam thrive in her career while in recovery reignited that dream.

"Sam showed me there is hope when I thought that opportunity was gone. I’m excited about my future for the first time in a long time."
