Erie's Lifeline Needs You

Posted Monday, August 31, 2026

Our friends at the Community Blood Bank (CBB) need your help.

An ongoing shortage is deeply impacting our community and threatening the availability of blood products.

Demand for blood is often higher in the summertime when travel and trauma are more prevalent, but this year has been especially dire as the supply dwindles.

The Community Blood Bank is the main supplier of blood to hospitals in northwest PA, meaning local donors are the key to maintaining an adequate blood supply. This differs from organizations like the American Red Cross, which moves blood products across their national network to meet demand. Because of this, CBB is a critical component of Erie's healthcare infrastructure.

This is a local issue with a local solution.

Own a business? Lead a club, team, or organization? Have a compassionate circle of friends? Now is the time to galvanize. Host a blood drive or show up in force at the CBB to donate.

Please join HHF, UPMC Hamot, and others who are answering CBB's call to action.
