Celebrating the Growth of Local Pediatric Health Care

On September 8, more than 130 guests gathered at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront hotel, hosted by Scott Kern and Amy Cuzzola-Kern, to celebrate the expansion of pediatric care in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Hosted by UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation and UPMC Hamot, the event showcased how philanthropy is driving access to world-class care for children in the Erie region.

Key Voices from the Evening

Lynn Rupp

Lynn Rupp, Vice President of Administrative Services at UPMC Hamot, opened the program. She highlighting the hospital’s incredible growth across specialties and the deepening partnership between UPMC Hamot and UPMC Children's. Access to pediatric medicine in the Erie region has grown to include a pediatric urgent care facility and 18 pediatric sub-specialists.

Diane Hupp

Diane Hupp, President of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, shared the hospital’s recent U.S. News & World Report ranking of 11 pediatric specialties, as well as Children’s strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient experience, and research.

Rachel Petrucelli

Rachel Petrucelli, President of UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, closed the evening by expressing gratitude to HHF and the collaboration between the two hospital foundations, which has led to expanded pediatric care availability in Erie, her hometown.

The Erie community is largely to thank for this burgeoning partnership. Fueled by local generosity and support, these teams have not only enhanced clinical capabilities and availability, but also boosted patient care through emotional, economic, and social supports.

Programs such as Child Life, which brings comfort and stress reduction to patients and families, as well as social work, which helps with challenges like transportation and food security, are powerful examples of philanthropy in action. The generosity of our donors directly enhances patient-centered care.

Take Action — your support can have a major impact on local children and families.
