This year, 22 foursomes donned pink attire and teed off at the Kahkwa Club to benefit local cancer patients through the Sandra Lynn Martin (SLM) Fund.
Inspired by his wife’s battle with breast cancer, Mike Martin quietly launched the SLM Fund at HHF in 2021. Since then, it has grown to an impressive $700,000 sum and helped hundreds of local individuals along the way.
“The SLM Fund offers short-term solutions to the pressing problems a cancer patient may face. It offers a pause, a breath, a moment of relief when the question is: how do I get to my treatment? Or, how do I make rent this month while my hours are cut? The fund helps with co-pays, transportation, gas, and groceries to help keep a family going during the hardest season of their lives."

Continuing to build the fund helps ensure it remains available to assist those in need.
“Not for recognition. Not for my name. Not even for Sandy’s,” Mike said. “But so that long after I am gone, long after all of us are gone, there will still be a place in this community where compassion shows up at the very moment a cancer patient needs it most.”
