UPMC Hamot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is a critical care unit that can be anxiety-provoking, loud, and overwhelming.

The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is a critical care unit that can be anxiety-provoking, loud, and overwhelming. For families, nothing is more terrifying than being told their infant will be admitted to NICU. Knowing how sensitive and precious this time is for our parents, our staff work collectively as a team with the families to advocate for and provide the best care possible to each infant on an individualized basis.
As a unit and as a team, we take pride in knowing that everything we do will help to bring each infant one day closer to going home. We are passionate about the care we provide and are grateful for our collaboration and rapport with the Hamot Health Foundation and the help our unit has received from the Children’s Care Fund.

The Children’s Care Fund has helped us obtain NICView cameras that
allow our families to view their infants from afar, breast pumps at each
bedside, and the “Cleanslate” sterilizing station to sterilize items
such as badges, phones, keys, etc.
Recently, with the help of the Hamot Health Foundation and the Children’s Care Fund, as well as other contributors, we are excited to provide two beautiful apartments to our families to help alleviate the strain on our families. We are all proud to offer these amazing resilient infants the utmost innovative and state-of-the-art medical care.
